Eduardo Landulfo - Research Director


Eduardo Landulfo is the founder and the research director of the LEAL team since 1999. He obtained his BSc in physics from the University of São Paulo and his master’s and PhD degrees in nuclear physics from IPEN. For the past 10 years his research has been focused on laser applications in atmospheric studies. He is also the chair and general coordinator of the Latin America Lidar Network (LALINET) and also committee member of the International Coordination-group on Laser Atmospheric Studies (ICLAS).

Fabio Lopes - Posdoc Research Assistant


Fabio received his degree in Physics 2002 from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFScar) and his Master degree in Engineering and Material Science from University of São Paulo (USP) in 2006. He started to work on the atmospheric remote sensing field when he joined the LEAL team as a PhD. student in 2006 at the Center for Lasers and Applications IPEN/CNEN. In his PhD. thesis was developed a validation methodology for CALIPSO-NASA satellite data in the South America Continent using a Raman and Elastic backscatter Lidar and the AERONET sun-photometer system. Currently he has a Research Assistant position at LEAL team involved in several projects concerning to environmental science applications;

- CALIPSO satellite validation;

- Lidar, CALIPSO and MODIS data applied to long-range aerosol ytransportation studies;

- Software analysis applied to Lidar data;

- Correlation between Lidar, AERONET and air quality measurements data applied to air pollution studies in megacities.

Gregori Moreira - PhD Student


Gregori is a Physical who works with Elastic and Doppler LIDAR. He develops works in the following areas:

- Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL);

- Turbulence;

- Air Quality;

He graduated in 2011 (University of São Paulo - USP) and he joined the LEAL team in 2012, when he started the Master Degree about "Methods to obtain the Planetary Boundary Layer Height from Lidar data". At now he studies high order moments in PBL and their correlation with Air Quality.

Cassia Beu - PhD Student


Cassia has bachelor degree in Meteorology and master degree in Climatology from Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP). Worked as weather forecaster for private and government companies providing information for several segments, from midia until natural disaster warning. Now, Cassia is joing to LEAL team as a PhD student to develop the atmospheric dispersion study for the Nuclear Reactor which will be build in Ipero (SP). A Doppler LIDAR, a Sodar, and a sophisticated model among others instruments will be used to study the local Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) and the radionuclides dispersion.

Fernanda Macedo - PhD Student


Fernanda has bachelor's degree in Chemistry (1994) and master's degree in Biotechnology (2003). Currently she´s joing the LEAL team as a PhD student and works with atmosphere bioaerosol remote sensing using lidar. She is professor at the Faculty of Technology of the State of São Paulo (FATEC-PG) teaching in the course of Chemical Processes Technology. She worked as a researcher at Blau pharmaceutical and at Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (SABESP).

Jonatan Silva - PhD Student


Jonatan received his Bachelor in Physics from Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and his Master degree from University of São Paulo (USP). He has experience in Monte Carlo simulation and inversion algorithim for geophysical data. Actualy he is Assistent Professor in Federal University of West of Bahia (UFOB). He develops works about Aerosol-Clouds Interaction by remote sensing technics.

Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physics and Instrumentation at University of São Paulo (2006). Experience in the area of Physics and field research, with emphasis on Instrumentation in Physics, Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences and Electrical Engineering.

Izabel da Silva Andrade - PhD Student


Izabel has a degree in Chemical Processes Technology at Faculty of Technology of Praia Grande (Fatec-PG). Joined the LEAL team in 2015 as a undergraduate research. She started the master's in 2016, studying the confinement of aerosols in the Cubatão region.

Antonio Arleques - Master's Student


Antonio Arleques has a technical degree in Industrial Electronic Maintenance from Federal Institute of Science and Technology (IFSP), works as a senior technician in electronics at A Tribuna de Santos Jornal e Editora LTDA. He’s pursuing degree in Chemical Processes Technology from Faculty of Technology of the State of São Paulo (FATEC-PG). He joined the LEAL team in 2015 to design and develop a microfluidic circuit (microreactor) for atmospheric analysis.

Elaine Araújo - Master's Student


Elaine Araújo has a degree in Chemical Processes Technology (FATEC-PG). Joined the LEAL team as a undergraduate research project in 2015. In 2016 started as Master's student utilizing the techinique Lidar of the monitoring Particulate Matter in Cubatão, São Paulo - Brazil.

Thais Correa - Master's Student


Thais Correa has a degree in Chemical Processes Technology (FATEC-PG). Joined the LEAL team as a Master's student in 2015. The project aims to analyze pollutants emitted into the atmosphere from the grain stored in silos area in the port area of the city of Santos (SP), using remote sensing lidar technique. Currently works as a professor of chemistry in the public and private sectors.

Eliane Larroza - Posdoc Research Assistant


Bachelors at Meteorology from Universidade Federal de Pelotas and master's at Meteorology from Universidade de São Paulo. Received her PhD in Nuclear Technology and Materials from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) associated with the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN). Has experience in Geosciences, focusing on Physical Meteorology, working mainly in the area of atmospheric modeling, remote sensing of cirrus clouds. Currently is involved in the work team of CNRS, in the Laboratoire Atmosphères, Milieux, Observations Spatiales (LATMOS) at Paris, and in the Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique (LOA) in Lille, France. His research concerns the physics of clouds and water vapor transport at high troposphere by lidar, radiometer, satellite and atmospheric modeling.

Renata da Costa - Posdoc Research Assistant


Bachelor in Physics from Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Received her Master and PhD in Nuclear Technology and Materials from USP associated with the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN). Currently, is a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Chemical Engineering at USP with experience in remote sensing, acting on the following topics:

- Optical properties of aerosols and gases

- Industrial flare monitoring

- Industrial fugitive gases monitoring

Maria Helena - Master's Student


Maria Helena has a degree in Chemicals Process Technology from Faculty of Technology of the State of São Paulo (FATEC-PG). Joined the LEAL team as a Master's student in 2015 to the project: "Monitoring of pollutants and environmental impact dispersion in the Santos Estuary by lidar technique".

This project will use the lidar technique to monitor real-time air emissions of particulate matter and trace gases from the estuary of the Port of Santos - SP. The application of this technique will enable the implementation of emissions monitoring systems in both specific emission sources as selected regions to generate studies of dispersion of pollutants affecting the quality of air.

Márcia Marques - Master's Student


Márcia works with atmosphere remote sensing using Wind LIDAR and SODAR to the characterization of the wind field, turbulence and PBL dynamics, also contributes to the development of the website of the team. Ms. Marques received a bachelor's degree in Meteorology 2012 from University of São Paulo, worked at the Wind Energy Industry for three years and joined the LEAL team as a master's student in 2014 at the Center for Lasers and Applications IPEN/CNEN.

Walter Nakaema - Posdoc Research Assistant


Bachelor in Physics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Received his PhD in Nuclear Technology and Materials from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) associated with the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN). Currently, is involved in projects concerning to environmental sciences:

- Carbon sequestration monitoring and management;

- Characterization of atmospheric aerosols, greenhouse gases and isotopes;

- Development of spectroscopic sensors based on optical cavities.

Patricia Ferrini Rodrigues - Posdoc Research Assistant


Bachelors at Molecular Science from University of Sao Paulo and PhD in Nuclear Technology and Materials from IPEN and University of Sao Paulo (USP). Has experience in molecular biology and LIDAR remote sensing. Currently is working at the Université Grenoble Alpes, France, in the field of Economy of Sutainable Development, with focus on Economic co-benefits of reducing air pollution from transport in public health, focusing on the design of public policies.
